Children’s Policy Framework 2024 – 2030
Investing in our Children for a Better Tomorrow
Child Friendly Version
A plan was created just for children!
Why?
Because children are our present and future and deserve to grow up happy, healthy, and safe.
Because all children must be protected from harm, have what they need to grow, and be able to share their ideas about things that affect them. These are what we call Children’s Rights and this plan seeks to make them happen!
Because decisions about children should always focus on what is best for them, as they need special care and protection. This is known as the Best Interests of the Child!
Because every child deserves the same chance to succeed, no matter who they are, and to get the support they need. These are called Equal Opportunities!
Because children and their families should always get the best help possible, like good education, healthcare, and other services, to meet their needs. This is what we mean by High-Quality Support!
What is this plan?
The Plan for Children in Malta 2024-2030 is for all children aged 0 to 17 years.
The goal of this plan is to help children grow into strong and active members of the community. This plan is here to make life better for all children, especially those who may need a little extra help.
There are Four Priorities that this plan wants to achieve. All of these priorities are connected and support each other to make a big, positive impact.
The four Priorities are:
Priority 1: Improving Child Wellbeing
Children should be valued to feel happy and healthy in every part of their lives! This includes getting the necessary support and services for a great quality of life by focusing on many important things, like:
The plan aims to:
By doing all these things, Government will make sure that you have the best opportunities in life, even when you come across challenges or problems. You will be given support so you can be your happiest and strongest self, growing up.
Priority 2: Supporting Families with Children
Families are important because they are made up of people who care for one another.
Yet, families need to have enough resources and support to take good care of their children and help them grow. This also includes making sure that if children cannot live with their own families, there are other caring people who can look after them.
This way, all children can have a good start in life!
The plain aims to:
Priority 3: Providing a Better Environment for Children
Children should grow up in safe places where they can thrive, both in the real world and online.
Having clean and secure spaces helps children live, learn, and play in the best way possible.
More playgrounds, cleaner air, greener places, and safer online spaces are important to make sure children can grow up feeling good and also, stay healthy.
Let us not forget that children can also do a lot to improve their environment!
The plan aims to:
Priority 4: Strengthening Child Participation
The opinions and unique experiences of every person, whether an adult or a child, are important and should be listened to when decisions are made.
As a child, you should be able to share your ideas and talk about things that matter to you, like school, home, and your community.
Remember, you have the right to speak up, and your thoughts can make a big difference. Even if you need support, it is your fundamental right to share what you think and feel.
The plan aims to:
Helping You Understand
The Government is a group of people who make rules and plan ways to keep our country safe, fair and a good place to live.
Children’s Rights are special rules that make sure children have a good life.
A Legal System is made up of rules and people who make sure everyone follows those rules.
It is kind of like the way a referee makes sure everyone plays fair in a game.
The legal system helps make sure people are treated fairly and that there are consequences when someone does something wrong.
Your Opinion Matters!
The Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights knows that it is important to listen to children’s ideas, worries, and suggestions. So, we invite all children to share their opinions on the Empowering Children App:
